Our latest research has recently been published: “Preoperative Staphylococcus aureus Nasal Screening and Decolonization for the Prevention of Periprosthetic Joint Infection in Elective Total Joint Arthroplasty: A Single-Center Retrospective Comparative Study”.
In this retrospective study involving 2,507 elective joint arthroplasties, we investigated the potential role of preoperative Staphylococcus aureus screening and targeted decolonization in preventing periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs).
Following the implementation of the screening protocol, no S. aureus-related PJIs were observed, although the difference was not statistically significant.
These findings suggest a potential benefit of targeted decolonization and highlight the need for further research.
A pleasure to have contributed to this work alongside colleagues from Brescia, Rome, Naples, and Lyon.
